The Club first saw light of day in 1975 as a humble works outfit, previous club chairman, John Thompson with some of his fellow employees at Her Majesty's Stationary Office from the Team Valley Industrial Estate, Gateshead, decided to form a football team and joined the Newcastle City Amateur League. Early success inspired John to develop the club further and the name of the club was changed to Whickham Sports FC and was operated from the Bay Horse public house in Whickham, playing on the public parks pitch in Dunston the team entered the Northern Amateur Football League, after the club won the Durham Minor Cup in 1980 it was decided to continue with progress and the club joined the Northern Combination League, a move nearer to the pitch seemed logical so the club moved it's base to the Mechanics Social Club in Dunston and became known as Dunston Mechanics FC in 1982. The club then acquired a piece of land from Gateshead Council and the committee developed it into a football ground, at this stage an approach was made to Federation Brewery for sponsorship to assist in the progress of the club, the Federation Brewery kindly agreed to become the club's main sponsor and the name of the club was changed to Dunston Federation Brewery FC, the new football ground became Federation Park. After finishing as League Champions and League Challenge Cup winners in 1987 the club left the Northern Combination League to join the Wearside League, after a period of four years in the Wearside League being League Champions twice and League Cup winners once the club felt a need to seek new opportunities and were successful in gaining entry into the prestigious Northern League and so entered the National Pyramid of non-league soccer. In our second season we won the Second Division and were promoted to the First Division in 1993 that season also saw the club reach the last eight of the National FA Vase competition, Dunston Federation Brewery are now an established Northern League team and after being finalists in the Northern League Challenge Cup in 1995/96 went on to become winners of the trophy in 1997/98, 1998/99 and 1999/00 and also winners of the J.R. Cleator Cup Charity Shield in 1999/00 and 2000/01. In 2003-2004 Dunston FBFC won the Northern League Division One title on the same day as they celebrated playing their 500th League game, three weeks later Dunston done the double and won the Northern League Cup for the fourth time.
